Friday Fives: 5 Spring Favorites

I don’t know about you, but I need some Spring Favorites in my life right now. I mean, did anyone else felt like winter really drug it’s feet this year? Charlotte really had a mild winter this year; we didn’t have any long streaks of days that didn’t make it above freezing. We didn’t even have any true snow days! It just hung out in the 40s and 50s, and rained. And then it rained some more. And, for a little change of pace, it rained even more.

Yet, all this rain and not-that-cold-but-still-not-warm temperatures just made it feel like winter hung on with every fiber of its being until the last possible moment. And now April is here, and it has exploded in blossoms and blooms. I. Couldn’t. Be. Happier! Yay! Wedding season!! Warm weather!! Go outside without a bunch of layers!!

So, in light of all of this springtime joy, I figured what better way to celebrate than to compile a list of my 5 favorite things for spring?

Without further ado:

5 Things I’m Loving This Spring

Note: These aren’t in any type of order–just a list!

1. This Jumpsuit

I would never describe myself as fashionable. I mean, I like clothes, but my two primary activities are exploring and adventuring with my husband and children and wedding photography. Both of those are activities that dictate comfort and functionality. I definitely prefer my clothes to be cute and to look good on me, but I don’t necessarily have a lot of time to explore a lot of options. But, I love rompers and jumpsuits! They’re so comfortable! It’s like wearing socially-acceptable pajamas! And I really love this one. When I don’t have a watermelon-shaped belly, that is. 😉 So, maybe this should technically be one of next year’s spring favorites.

2. The Ivy Place Strawberries

I’ve been doing venue tours and meeting with vendors a lot this spring. There’s nothing better than doing what you love with other people who also love it!! It’s been so fun to meet people in this industry that I love. This week I had the opportunity to tour an extremely gorgeous venue, and I’ll share more about them in the next couple of weeks. But, I have to mention them here because they also operate a berry farm! Their pick-you-own strawberries are just starting, so, after our tour (which the girls had to accompany me on for unrelated reasons), we picked fresh strawberries! The Ivy Place doesn’t spray their berries with anything unless the season is particularly wet, in which case they may have to spray for fungus. But, this season, that hasn’t been necessary. And, let me tell you, these are the best berries I’ve ever eaten! So sweet and juicy! Every berry she picked, Afton said, “Oh look at that beauty!! We can’t leave here without that one!” We’ll definitely be back for more strawberries! And, when they’re ripe, we’ll go for blueberries and blackberries, too!

3. This Moisturizer

Sharing this may make me an old lady, but I don’t even care. Take care of your skin, am I right? And this moisturizer has my heart. I make spa kits for all of my brides because I remember how stressful it can be to plan a wedding, so I’ve been able to explore and try out a lot of different spa and skin care products. I don’t include this in the spa kits because that feels a little weird, but it’s still my favorite. So light! Doesn’t have that greasy texture an hour later! Smells good! And, conveniently, I can buy it at Target. Win-win-win-win!

4. Ranunculus

Ahhh, quite possibly my favorite spring favorite! I have a problem. I can’t go to Trader Joe’s and not buy fresh flowers. They’re just so inexpensive there and still so beautiful! And the way they brighten a living space is unparalleled! But, a couple of weeks ago, I was determined to make it out of TJ’s without flowers. I was going to conquer this problem if it was the last thing I did! And then I walked in and saw that THE RANUNCULUS HAD COME!! And my resolve crumbled like a toddler’s in the face of unlimited jelly beans. I bought the Ranunculus. But, really. Can you blame me?

5. This Book

This had to make the Spring Favorites list. We are a family of readers. We don’t have a television because the only thing we watch (because, 12 seasons in, we’re invested) is The Big Bang Theory, and that can be watched online. Nearly seven years of marriage, and we’ve never had a television. Nor do we want one. But books? Well, let’s just say we’re running out of shelf space, and library trips are a weekly event. Sometimes twice weekly. Kyle and I both love to read (you can check out everything I read in 2018 here), and our girls are both turning into passionate bookworms, too. Afton also especially loves to garden. She’s fascinated by how things grow. She wants to know which flowers belong in which season, and which trees change their leaves in the fall. Digging in the dirt brings her sweet little heart more joy than almost anything else. That’s why I’m so excited that 1. we have a plot in a community garden this year! and 2. this book will be in her Easter basket this year. I can’t wait to read it with her. 🙂

I’m all caught up in the Spring season now! So, please, tell me your must-haves for spring? I want to know!

Oh! And, if you missed last Friday’s Fives and are looking for good coffee in the Queen City, you can check it out here.
