Mud and McQueen: A Waxhaw Coffee Truck

If you’ve driven through downtown Waxhaw, NC on a Wednesday morning in the last month or so then you’ve probably noticed the coolest Waxhaw coffee truck–and Waxhaw’s latest caffeine staple. Named for a slang term for coffee and “The King of Cool” himself, Steve McQueen, Mud and McQueen serves up homemade, made-to-order pastries (that are TO DIE FOR), a unique menu of espresso drinks, and nitro cold brew.

Cool spots around the globe inspired the names for each espresso drink on the menu. From Joshua Tree to the Bahamas, this Waxhaw coffee truck provides the perfect frothed and foamed latte with a side of wanderlust. With coconut and chocolate the Bahamas was the perfect summery touch to last week’s perfect weather!

WHO IS MUD AND MCQUEEN

Mud and McQueen is owned and operated by a mother-daughter duo who just moved here from California 2.5 years ago. Deb and Dorene operated a retail store on Main Street in Waxhaw until last March. Stella and Parker, their retail store, featured unique home and clothing items and cold brew on tap. But, when the lockdown began last March, they knew it was time to pivot. They’d owned two coffee shops in California, so they decided to try out a mobile coffee business here.

Mud and McQueen started with a coffee cart which they set up all around the area from Downtown Waxhaw to Hunter Farms among other spots around Charlotte, and just in the last few weeks they completed work on the ultimate upgrade: a beautiful, unique coffee truck. With art they painted themselves, beautiful wooden shelves featuring their own Mud and McQueen blends, and a full espresso and cold brew set up, this Waxhaw coffee truck is a whole coffee shop on wheels.

If you’re in the Charlotte area, I cannot recommend any coffee company more highly! Deb and Dorene are the type of people you instantly want to be friends with, and their coffee is amazing! I’m a coffee snob, so please know that I don’t say this lightly. They truly know good coffee, and they only serve the best! They have a loyal customer for life in me, and I can’t wait to stop by their truck and try something new.
