Cameron and Grace’s Uptown Martinsville Engagement

A Virginia Engagement

Planning a proposal isn’t easy. The moment a man proposes to his soon-to-be wife is arguably one of the most important moments of their relationship, so you can imagine that when the girl almost ruins it, totally unintentionally though it may be, it’s a big deal!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. This story begins way before that moment. Cameron had been planning to propose to Grace for a while. He’d had a couple of dates in mind and finally settled on the perfect weekend. They went for a little hike near where Grace is in college. Cameron had been praying for the perfect proposal spot, so, when he saw a beautiful overlook ahead on the trail, he thought he had an answer to prayer! Until Grace said she didn’t want to go check out the overlook, that is! But, they ended up making their way to the perfect spot.

As the moment approached, Cameron kept trying to steer the conversation in a direction that would seamlessly lead to a proposal. He thought the perfect moment had approached when the conversation took an especially encouraging turn, but, before he could fit a word in edgewise to capitalize on the moment, Grace quickly changed the subject to comment on some trash she saw by the river.

Getting Around to the Point

So, in a moment of desperation Cameron blurted out, “Would you try to save me if I fell in the river?” Grace was a little taken aback and tried to make light of the question, but Cameron was adamant. Grace didn’t understand why he was making such a big deal about falling in the river, but she finally answered the question, which finally gave Cameron the segue he needed to take a knee and ask the question they’d both been waiting for for a long time.

“A Day of confusion and tension and amazingness”

When sharing their story with me, Grace described it as, “A day of confusion and tension and amazingness.” And, I truly believe that these two have a life of amazingness ahead.

Grace and Cameron, you two are a Godly, kind, compassionate couple, and that shows in the way you interact with each other and everyone else you meet. It was such a gift and a blessing to take your engagement portraits, and I can’t wait for your wedding!!
